From stingrays to turtles, clownfish to jellyfish, crocodiles to coral, the Sea Life London Aquarium brings ocean life to the heart of the capital.
The aquarium has more than two million litres of water and over 500 species from around the world. You can visit 14 themed zones over three floors, watch many of the creatures being fed and even interact with some species.
Among its exciting exhibits, the aquarium has a colony of Gentoo Penguins. Visitors can journey through an icy landscape full of interactive features. There’s a penguin viewing ice cave from which you can watch these cute creatures dive beneath the water and play in a carefully created icy home.
Of course, the sharks are always a favourite at any aquarium, and among the 12 species here are the hammerhead, bowmouth guitar shark (also known as the ray shark), brown shark, sand tiger shark and the blacktip reef shark.
Shark Reef Encounter is a new attraction that features a magnificent Pacific display, spanning three floors. You can see sharks close-up on the newly-extended Shark Walk, a glass walkway that allows you to walk above a stunning shoal of these big fish. There’s also the chance to snorkel with the sharks. The adventure lasts one hour, 30 minutes and no diving experience is necessary. You can also get close up and learn more at the Shark Academy – including touching a shark’s skin
Sea Life London Aquarium is located on the South Bank, next to the River Thames, and is open seven days a week, 10am-7pm. The nearest station in Waterloo.
